Personal profile

Personal information

I am a Physical Geographer by training with almost ten years of work experience in the fields of environmental geography and sustainability science. My broad research interests lie in identifying pathways toward sustainable human-environment systems in light of global change. I specialise in spatially explicit, large-scale land-system assessments to better understand patterns, determinants, and consequences of land-management practices. For my research, I make intensive use of existing, spatially explicit data sets at various spatial scales, combining them in novel ways to answer my research questions. Therefore, I mainly rely on quantitative methods, such as land-change (simulation) models, frequentist and machine learning regression techniques, or spatial statistics, preferably using the statistical programming language R for data pre-processing, analysis, and visualisation. Regionally, my research focus is on Europe and South America. I enjoy working in international and diverse environments, and have been contributing to several interdisciplinary, collaborative research projects. I highly value knowledge transfer through teaching and I have mentored several students, taught six full-term seminars at undergraduate and graduate levels repeatedly over the last decade, and contributed to seminars as guest lecturer or supervisor.
