Personal profile

Personal information

Ceriel Jacobs (1955) is a research programmer in the Computer Systems group of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and has been for the past 35 or so years.

Research

The current research projects Ceriel Jacobs is involved in are:

  • Vlog, a Datalog engine that combines a column-based memory layout with novel optimization methods that avoid redundant inferences at runtime;
  • Cashmere, a programming system for heterogeneous compute clusters with many-core devices such as GPUs, something we call a compute jungle;
  • Many-Core Levels (MCL), a framework that allows one to write computational kernels for different kinds of many-core hardware;

Teaching

As a programmer, Ceriel Jacobs is not involved much in teaching, but he does coordinate the programming assignment for the Concurrency and Multithreading course, and is occasionally involved in bachelor or master projects.
