Coen (/Koon/) van der Geest ( is a PhD Candidate at the KIN Center for Digital Innovation at the School of Business and Economics of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He holds an MSc in Business Administration (Digital Business and Innovation)(Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), and an MPhil in Business in Society (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam). Coen’s dissertation focuses on the dynamics within and around digital architectures, specifically on the development and use of application programming interfaces (APIs) for collaborative innovation, and the effects of IT architecture on business/IT alignment and IS complexity. He conducts his research in the context of web browser platforms and around enterprise IT architecture integration efforts. His research is published in the leading journal of California Management Review. He is currently a co-coordinator and lecturer for Strategic Management of Technology and Innovation, tutorial teacher for Quantitative Research Design and Methods, coordinator and lecturer of M&T Atelier: Quantitative for the pre-master of the Executive Master BA, and he supervises bachelor and master theses.
