My field of research is the (Christian) interpretation of the Bible from the first century AD until Late Antiquity. I am especially interested in the reception of the New Testament epistle to the Ephesians in that period, which will result in a volume in the Novum Testamentum Patristicum commentary series.
A related project is the investigation of the use of the Pauline corpus in the Old Testament commentaries of Theodore of Mopsuestia (ca. 350-428). The question is how his use of Paul's epistles is related to the appropriation of the Jewish Scriptures as the Christian Old Testament vis-à-vis Jews, 'pagans' and 'heretics'.
My work is funded by the Fritz Thyssen Stiftung within the project 'Theodore of Mopsuestia’s Pauline Commentaries: A Reappraisal on the Basis of Newly-Discovered Syriac Sources', supervised by prof.dr. Hagit Amirav.
