Daniel Petrovics is a Junior Researcher and PhD Candidate at the department of Environmental Policy Analysis at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM). His research interests in broad terms are related to urban sustainability, with a focus on the governance aspects and scaling of low-carbon initiatives targeting climate mitigation and adaptation in the urban setting. In his current research, he is working on the Horizon 2020 funded NEWCOMERS project, in particular focusing on polycentric governance arrangements of new clean energy communities. Closely linked, his PhD research focuses on the scaling mechanisms of energy communities.
In the past he contributed to the RESILIO project, which falls under the European Union’s Urban Innovative Actions program. Prior to joining the IVM he worked at the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) where he managed policy research projects on sustainability reporting policy. Next to this he completed a MSc in Urban and Regional Planning, with a focus on the scaling potential of Vertical Farming for the sake of sustainable urban food systems. Alongside he completed a MSc in International Development Studies, during which he focused on the governance arrangements of the urban energy transition in mid-sized Indian cities.
