Personal profile

Teaching

At Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam I teach a bachelor course in history of mathematics (FEW_X_400652), a bachelor course in history of computing (FEW_XB_0076) and a course in history of AI (FEW_X_400318). Furthermore I organise a master seminar in history of science for those who want more. In cooperation with Gerard Alberts I also teach master courses in history and philosophy of mathematics, and history of digital cultures.

Research

My research focusses on the history of mathematics education and history of mathematical societies. Currently I am writing a double biography of Hans and Susan Freudenthal. Moreover I am actively involved in a subject that is touching upon both history of computing and history of education: the application of programmed instruction in education, 1945-1975.
