Personal information

David Wozabal was appointed full professor for Management Science and Machine Learning at the department of Operations Analytics of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 2023. Before joining the VU he was professor at the Technical University of Munich. David Wozabal studied business information systems and mathematics and obtained his doctoral degree in statistics from the University of Vienna in 2008.

Research

Professor Wozabal’s research revolves around optimal data-driven decision making under uncertainty with a focus on the development of numerical algorithms, quantitative stability, and model uncertainty. He aims to provide meaningful decision support for practically relevant problems in individual and group decision making. Professor Wozabal employs the results of his theoretical research in applications problems in energy, finance, supply chain management & logistics, and risk management.

Apart from optimal decision making, Professor Wozabal is interested in the energy transition. He employs methods of machine learning, operations research, and statistics to study the efficiency and optimal design for energy markets as well as statistical properties of energy prices.
