Personal profile

Personal information

Diana is a researcher within the performing arts. After completing her Bachelor Human Movement Science, her focus shifted towards the mental aspects of sport and performing. Which is why, upon finishing her Master in Sport- and Performance Psychology, she started the Post-academic education for Applied Sport Psychology. Leading to the accreditation for applied sport psychologist in the Netherlands (SPORTPSYCHOLOOG VSPN®).

Currently she is working as one of the embedded scientists at PEARL Research Lab and is conducting a PhD project at Codarts Rotterdam and VU University Amsterdam. Codarts is a university providing high level professional arts education in music, dance, and circus arts.

The main focus of her PhD project is the mental aspects of injuries in pre-professional dancers. After gaining more insight in the incidence of mental and physical health problems, she looked into mental risk factors for sustaining injuries. To, eventually, develop injury preventive strategies. The final part of her PhD trajectory will focus on how mental health impacts the recovery process of injuries and vice versa, using qualitative research methods. She tries to connect the physical aspects of health with mental health, to show that both are very important to become a top performer/athlete.

Moreover, she is an applied sport psychologist, working with a diverse group of individual athletes/performers, especially with gymnasts and dancers, but also within the more ‘traditional’ team sports. She is particularly focused on working with and around injuries, preferably within multi-disciplinary trajectories with (sports) medical professionals, physiotherapists, and dieticians.
