Dirk Essink is assistant professor global health, with a focus on health systems and transdisciplinarity, Athena Institute, Fac. of Science, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Dirk obtained his Phd in health system innovation, with a particular focus on the role of NGOs in change processes. Dirk his current research is mainly concentrated in Vietnam and Lao PDR, Ethiopia and South Sudan. His primary research interest lies with the integration and translation of knowledge for public health policy and strategies for scaling up within health systems. The topics he currently mainly focusses on are: 1) quality of care in humanitarian settings; 2) quality of care in sexual and reproductive health; 3) nutrition sensitive agriculture and 4) agenda setting for research. Dirk is proficient in transdisciplinary, mixed methods research.
