Personal information

Dorothé Smit (she/her) is an assistant professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the VU-UT joint Creative Technology programme. She holds a PhD degree in Human-Computer Interaction from the University of Salzburg.

Her research explores responsible design futures through speculative methods, focusing on the design of embodied experiences in women's health. Herein, she explores how physical-digital (hybrid) systems mediate our relation to the (medical) world, from a feminist phenomenological perspective.

Dorothé teaches in the Creative Technology bachelor program, where she is responsible for the first-year courses Technology and Society; and Human-Centred Design. Furthermore, she has developed and currently coordinates the second-year module Humane by Design, in which she also teaches the courses Utopias & Design Futures, Humane by Design, and the related elective course Dangerous Design.
