Personal profile

Personal information

Ella Hafermalz joined the KIN research group in 2018. Ella has a PhD in Information Systems and Work and Organisational Studies from the University of Sydney Business School in Australia and also holds degrees in Teaching, Media and Communications, and Cultural Studies from the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Research

Ella's research looks at how using new technologies, such as Generative AI, changes work practices. Her interest in new ways of working started with in-depth analyses of remote work, and flexible and hybrid working, and now increasingly maps how AI technologies are finding their way into such work practices. For example, now that ChatGPT is available and ready to answer your questions, do you still turn to colleagues for help? What about while working from home? Ella's research looks to connect the dots across theory and practice - often by drawing on philosophy, social theory, and the arts to understand what it is like to work with and through technology.
