Eric Kroes is Directeur van Significance en Associate Professor Transport Economics bij de VU Amsterdam. Hij heeft verkeerskunde en civiele techniek gestudeerd, en heeft zijn Masters gehaald aan het Institute for Transport Studies, Universiteit van Leeds. Eric is al 30 jaar werkzaam in het toegepast vervoersonderzoek, eerst voor het Nederlands Vervoerswetenschappelijk Instituut (nu NEA, 1978-1985), daarna voor Hague Consulting Group waarvan hij een van de oprichters/directeuren was (1985-2001), en daarna voor RAND Europe (2001-2006) waar hij directeur was en leider van het transport team. Zijn belangrijkste werkterreinen zijn vervoersmodellering, stated preference onderzoek, openbaar vervoer en luchtvaartstudies, projectevaluatie (ex-ante), monitoring en beleidsevaluaties (ex-post). Hij treedt geregeld op als verkeerskundig expert in audits en second opinion onderzoeken. Hij is tevens als associate professor vervoerseconomie verbonden aan de VU Amsterdam.
