Research

Eva is an interdisciplinary scholar focusing predominantly on the areas of Law, Social Psychology and Military Ethics. Her academic profile is grounded in her fascination for social issues of international scope and passion for teaching and outreach. Eva is a member of the Center for International Criminal Justice.

Eva is interested in WHY, and in understanding, promoting and enabling a positive trajectory in human behaviour either on a global, community or personal scale that environmental and individual factors and believes how they interact through time need to be persistently researched to grow our understanding.

Eva Whitehead is Assistant Professor at the Criminal Law and Criminology department, Faculty of Law.

During Eva’s undergraduate studies at University College Maastricht (UCM) when she served as both a Board Member of the ExtrACT Committee and College Student Promoter, her interest in outreach and public activities took root.

After obtaining her BA (cum laude), Eva received a scholarship from the Deutsch Amerikanisches Praktikanten Programm allowing her to work as intern at the Heinrich Böll Foundation North America for five months before obtaining her LL.M. (cum laude) in Law and Politics of International Security at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam while working as research assistant.

Eva’s interdisciplinarity continued during her research assistant traineeship at the ICRC and later was cemented in her PhD research. During her doctoral research, Eva served for four years on the Board of the European Society of Military Ethics; representing young academics. Currently, Eva teaches several courses in the Bachelor Programme Law in Society.
