Personal information

Dr. Evgenia Lysova is an Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior at the department of Management and Organization, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Her work has been published in the international peer-reviewed journals such as Human Relations, Personeel Psychology, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Frontiers in Psychology, and Career Development International. She was a lead author of the article “The role of the spouse in managers’ family-related career sensemaking” that has received Emerald Literati Network Award for Excellence 2016: Outstanding Paper. In 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2018, Dr. Lysova received the Best Reviewer Award from the Careers Division of the Academy of Management.

Dr. Lysova is an active member of the “International Consortium for the Cross-Cultural Study of Contemporary Careers” (5C). The consortium focuses on defining and measuring differences in individual, social and structural influences on definition of career success and adaptation to emerging economic conditions in terms of career management. It currently involves more than 30 countries worldwide. 

Research

Her research primarily concerns calling, meaningful work, careers, and Corporate Social Responsibility. She is especially interested in understanding what enables employees to experience a sense of work meaningfulness in their careers, how individuals can pursue their meaningful careers in a “healthy” manner in the long term (e.g., focus on work-life balance and well-being) and what role organizations play in supporting this process. She also researches individuals’ contributions to their careers and their organizations in diverse contexts, including organizational change, entrepreneurship, and creative industries.

Teaching

She is a master and bachelor thesis coordinator for the HRM Master’s program and a coordinator of the Qualitative Learning Line for Amsterdam Business Research Institute (ABRI) part-time PhD program. She also teaches several courses such as Academic Skills (BSc), Integrated Research Project (BSc), and Research Seminar II (MSc), and she supervises PhD students, Master’s students, and Bachelor students.
