Ewa K. Strzelecka is a Research Associate at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She holds a Ph.D. degree in Social Science from the University of Granada (Spain). In 2021, she was awarded a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA-IF) to implement a research project entitled Rethinking Peace-building: women, revolution, exile, and conflict resolution in Yemen. Before she came to Amsterdam, she was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Granada. From 2017 to 2019 she was a postdoctoral researcher at the University Nova of Lisbon (Portugal), and from 2016 to 2017 she was an Adjunct Professor (“Profesora Asociada”) at the University of Castilla La Mancha (Spain). She also held visiting scholar positions in Poland, Germany, Spain, the UK, the US, Yemen, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Western Sahara, Mozambique, and Bolivia.

Ewa K. Strzelecka has received numerous honors and awards, including five prestigious prizes for her research on gender, culture, Islam, and development in Yemen. She is the author of Mujeres en la Primavera Árabe: construcción de una cultura política de resistencia feminista en Yemen (Women in the Arab Spring: the Construction of a Political Culture of Feminist Resistance in Yemen, CSIC, 2017).

Her main research interests focus on women's movements, human rights, revolutions, transnational politics, and the complexity of social and political change in the Middle East and North Africa.
