Fabienne Thijs is a PhD Researcher at the Criminal Law and Criminology department, Faculty of Law and at the Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement (NSCR). Her research focuses mainly on the life-course and criminal careers of terrorist suspects in the Netherlands. Fabienne is also the division coordinator of the Activism, Extremism, and Terrorism division of the Dutch Society of Criminology.

Research

For her PhD project, Fabienne examines backgrounds, the life course, and criminal careers of terrorist suspects in the Netherlands through the use of register data and rich file information. Besides working on her PhD project, she was recently involved in research looking into the anti-vaccination movement in the Netherlands on Telegram.

Teaching

In 2021 and 2022, Fabienne was a guest speaker in a course on Extremism and Terrorism, part of VU MSc Criminology.
