Fleur Deken is an Associate Professor Organizing for Innovation Processes at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, School of Business and Economics. Her research focuses on collaborative innovation. Theoretically, her interests lie in social practices, process research, and knowledge collaboration across boundaries. Fleur has an interdisciplinary background, with a PhD from the Delft University of Technology (cum laude), an MSc (cum laude) in Strategic Product Design (Delft University of Technology), a minor in Business Administration (National University of Singapore), and a BSc in Psychology (University of Amsterdam) and Industrial Design Engineering (Delft University of Technology).

Fleur currently researches fieldlabs as a mechanism for mission-driven innovation, innovation ecosystems, and strategic experimenting processes around digital technologies. She is part of the leadership of the Strategizing Activities & Practices  (SAP) interest group at the Academy of Management, acting as PDW chair (2022). Fleur publishes in different disciplines, including management & organization journals (such as the Academy of Management Journal and Organization Science), innovation-focused journals (such as the Journal of Product Innovation Management), and in the field of design (e.g., Design Studies and Journal of Engineering Design) and is a regular contributors to international conferences and workshops. She organized the International Digital Innovation Workshop (2017 at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) and convened a conference track at the European Group of Organization Studies meeting on Routine Dynamics (2021).

She has coordinated various research projects, including the interdisciplinary NWO project on Crossover innovation in healthcare and NWO KIEM grants with Philips Design. She is currently involved in research projects on innovation ecosystems with BSH and Philips, organizing mission-driven innovation in fieldlabs at Techport and NeLL, and a project on new forms of interorganizational collaboration with City of Amsterdam, City of the Hague, the Waterboards of Limburg and Drents Overijsselse Delta, and ProRail in her role as affiliated researcher at the University of Twente.

Teaching

Fleur is the Coordinator of the BSc program in International Business Administration as the School of Business and Economics and teaches courses on technology and innovation and research methods. She actively spans the boundary between academic and practice through executive teaching, workshops, and through commissioned researcher projects.
