Floris van Montfoort is a Postdoctoral Researcher in energy and behavioural economics, focusing on household energy consumption, citizen engagement, and participation in the energy transition. He is part of the Align4Energy project, which explores behavioural interventions to promote sustainable energy consumption and enhance citizen participation in decarbonisation efforts.
His research applies experimental methods, particularly field experiments conducted in collaboration with stakeholders, to generate insights that inform public policy. He has experience conducting randomised controlled trials (RCTs) in real-world settings and is interested in collaborating with academic and policy partners on energy transition and consumer behaviour.
During his PhD at the University of Groningen, partially funded by The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), Floris studied tariff regulation of electricity grid operators in the energy transition. His research included a large-scale field experiment on the application of dynamic grid tariffs and smart charging of electric vehicles (EVs) to mitigate grid congestion, assessing their impact on household electricity consumption.
In addition to his research, Floris teaches courses in energy economics and behavioural economics and supervises BSc and MSc theses.
