Frank van Leth has an extensive research portfolio in the fields of HIV and tuberculosis. As an epidemiologist, he has an affinity for contextually relevant methodological approaches for capturing public health needs and designing appropriate interventions. His current line of research is in the field of antimicrobial resistance, with particluar attention to surveillance methodology

Frank van leth served as the chair of TBnet (2016-2020), a European consortium with over 800 members dedicated to collaborative basic, translational, clinical, and applied TB research.

He is a former Associate Editor of the International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases (2006 - 2021)

Research

Selected research projects:

. OASIS:  project aimed at developing an antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance strategy in a One Health context, which is applicable in high-, middle-, and low-income countries. 

. WHOpen: project to evaluate the effectiveness of decentralizing care for diabetes and hypertension in Eswatini

. PROGRESS: project to improve identification and treatment of urinary tract infections in nursign home residents, with special attention to the use of point-of-care tests.

Teaching
