Friederike Mathey is doctoral researcher at the department of Management and Organization of the School of Business and Ecnomics (SBE) at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

She started her PhD in 2018, after having been for 5 years in business as a project and sales manager in the engineering sector. Following her interests from her executive MBA degree in international management, she now works on a 3-years PhD project in global careers. For her PhD position, Friederike has been funded within a Marie-Sklodowska-Curie Action of the EU Horizon 2020 programme.

Her research specifically investigates the concept of social capital of international employees (IEs). The goal is to examine the different mechanisms that shape IEs' social capital and to better understand the conditions leading to benificial outcomes for both, organizations and individuals. Friederike has presented her research at the AoM Careers in Context Conference in Vienna (2020), the EURAM 2020 (online) and several smaller scale research seminars. Additionally, Friederike engages in teaching activities (e.g. OB & HRM, thesis supervision) and organizing scholarly events such as the SGM "Careers across the life-span - integration careers and HRM research" at Amsterdam Business Research Institute.
