Hilco van Elten is an associate professor at the Department of Accounting of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and is the program director for the Certified Public Controllers program at the Zijlstra Center.

Hilco also holds a visiting position at the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management, where he supervises PhD projects and contributes to accounting research and education. 

Research

Hilco research focusses on Management Acccounting & Control in healthcare organizations. Recent studies address the use of performance measurement systems, the role of trust, applications of cost accounting methodologies, all within the healthcare sector.

Hilco publishes in both accounting and healthcare management journals, including Behavioral Research in Accounting, Management Accounting Research, Accounting Research Journal, BMJ Open, the International Journal of Health Policy and Management, Frontiers in Public Health, Journal of Medical Internet Research, and Health Care Management Review.
