Hille Bruns is an assistant professor of management and organization at the department of Organization Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Her Master of Arts in Social Sciences with Honors is from the Universiteit van Amsterdam. She gained her doctorate at the Boston University School of Management on the topic of coordination in cross-disciplinary collaboration.
With ethnographic methods, Hille studies the role of digital technology in creative processes including learning, knowledge development and digital transformation. Her notable publications include an analysis of the nature of tedious work in digitization in the arts and sciences, featured in Administrative Science Quarterly, and a study on scientific collaboration in the Academy of Management Journal. Current projects focus on literacy, student engagement and technology-enhanced learning in the classroom. She actively contributes to the academic community, organizing discussions on digital technology at major academic conferences, such as the upcoming EGOS conference in Athens in 2025.
Hille is dedicated to excellent education. She teaches core classes on academic skills and research methods on the BA and MA level. In 2023, she earned her senior teaching qualification (SKO) for redesigning the first-year academic skills course in the BA program Public Administration and Organization Science with innovative teaching methods that emphasize writing and reading skills. Currently, she supervises two doctoral candidates and has successfully guided another to completion in 2023. She has a decade of experience teaching PhD courses on the Philosophy of Science at the ABRI graduate school at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
