Research

Working title PhD dissertation: From domestic to social standing: transformations in gender identities in Italy between ca. the 10th to 6th century BC.

The aim of my dissertation is to investigate how and to what extent gender identities were redefined as a result of the increasing urbanisation and social stratification during roughly the 10th to 6th century BC in Italy. Since burial places constitute the principle source of information on identity for Italy in this phase, funerary data also play a central role in my thesis. Latium Vetus serves as the main study area, but parallels are drawn with several contemporary necropoleis throughout Italy.
