Personal profile
Personal information
After attaining my master’s degree in Work & Organizational Psychology at the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) in 2005, I started my career as a test consultant at Van der Maesen & Koch HRM-advies. After 2 years, I returned to the EUR to obtain my PhD and to continue my career as an Assistant Professor. From 2012 to 2017, I was an Assistant Professor of Social and Organizational Psychology at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In 2017, I joined the HRM group at the department of Management & Organization at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
Teaching
I teach courses in HRM and Research Methods and supervise several Master thesis projects each year. I am currenlty supervising 4 PhD projects.
In 2015, I won the VU Junior Teacher of the Year Award, and in 2016 I won the DocenTalentprijs at the Faculty of Behavioral and Movement Science.
Research
My research focuses on the recruitment and selection of personnel. Within this field, I study topics such as situational judgment testing, overconfidence and leadership selection, impression management tactics, and adverse impact. I represent the VU in the Dutch Committee on Tests and Testing (COTAN), which is part of the Dutch Association of Psychologists (NIP) and audits the quality of psychological tests that are available for use in the Netherlands. In 2015, I joined the board of the NOA foundation (‘Stichting Nederlands Onderzoekscentrum Arbeidsmarkt en Allochtonen’). The goal of this foundation is to improve the hiring chances of ethnic minorities in the Netherlands. I am also a member of the scientific advisory board of Lagerweij.
