Personal profile
Personal information
Jiakun Liu is a full-time postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Spatial Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, funded by the EU project ENHANCE under the supervision of Dr. Eric Koomen. My research focuses on modeling 15-minute city scenarios, integrating land use and travel behavior to support sustainable urban and transport planning.
I did my PhD in the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning at Utrecht University (2025), where I explored the intersection of transport and health geography.
Research
My research examines the dynamic relationships between travel behavior, environments, and well-being. Also, I am interested in understanding the health outcomes (including mental health) of travel and their implications on travel behavior.
My work is driven by a commitment to understanding how urban and transport systems can be designed to enhance quality of life, promote sustainability, and foster healthier communities. I am passionate about bridging research and practice to address real-world challenges in urban planning and mobility.
