Joris van Wijk is professor Criminology of Conflict-related Crimes and Post-Conflict Justice. He teaches primarily in the master programme International Crimes, Conflict and Criminology and is a fellow of the Center of International Criminal Justice (CICJ). His research interests lie at the crossroads of criminology, international criminal justice, terrorism, transitional justice and (irregular) (asylum) migration. He mainly applies a qualitative mixed methods approach. 

Joris is a graduate in criminal law and criminology. In 2007 he published his PhD research Luanda-Holanda on irregular asylum migration from Angola to the Netherlands. He has been a visiting professional at the International Criminal Court (2011) and the Dutch Public Prosecution Service (2018), and a visiting scholar at Oslo University (2013), Melbourne University (2016) and Universidade Katyavala Bwila in Angola(2019).

Since 2021 Joris works part-time as a reserve for the Netherlands Royal Marechaussee. He is also an independent consultant for Hoopoe Migration Expertise.
