Julius is a PhD Candidate in the department of Water and Climate Risk of the Institute of Environmental Studies (IVM). He earned his bachelor degrees in Environmental Engieneering at RWTH Aachen, Germany, where he analyzed the vulnerability of farmers in Northern Germany to flooding for his thesis. He continued his studies at TU Delft in Civil Engineering with the specification on Hydraulic Engineering (flood risk track). In his thesis he developed a flood risk assessment framework of Venice, IT, accounting for varying future sea level rise and vulnerability scenarios.

His PhD research is part of the Horizon 2020 funded MYRIAD-EU project focused on Multi-hazards. The PhD focusses on developing a method for decision-support and policy analysis to design Disaster Risk Management pathways that account for trade-offs and synergies of risk reduction measures across hazards, sectors and time.
