Personal profile

Personal information

I have a special interest in free and un-free labor, the relationship between employers and employees, and consumerism and its influence on society. Historically, but in our current society as well.

Currently, I work as a postdoctoral researcher on a project on the economic impact of slavery for the Dutch Republic. In 2016, I finished my PhD thesis on the truck system on plantations in Louisiana and peateries in the Netherlands in the period 1865-1920. I have worked as well on history of resitance of enslaved women against slavery in the former Dutch colonies Suriname and Curacao, which resulted in the theatre play ‘Rebelse Vrouwen’ in 2013.
