Personal information

Klaudia’s interests are mainly focused on intercalibration of astronomical and isotopic timescales and application of 40Ar/39Ar dating in stratigraphic problems. Klaudia combines astronomical dating and high precision radio-isotopic (40Ar/39Ar, U/Pb) methods in her research. Improved calibration of the geological time scale as well as improvement of the means (i.e. technique development and refinement) is one of the main goals.

Klaudia Kuiper obtained her Gymnasium B diploma in 1992 in Steenwijk. She finished her propaedeuse in Geology a year later at Utrecht University. She obtained her MS degree in environmental geochemistry in 1997 at Utrecht University. Her MS research was twofold focusing on denitrification processes in soils in general and an integrated geochemical study of soil- and water quality in relation to geology in a natural park in Espírito Santo, Brazil. She worked during 4 months as an associated researcher on zeolitisation of fly-ashes at the Geochemistry Department of Utrecht University.

Klaudia’s PhD involved the intercalibration of radioisotopic and astronomical time in the Mediterranean Neogene. Her thesis, a collaboration between the departments of Stratigraphy and Paleontology, Utrecht University and Isotope Geochemistry, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, was defended in November 2003. Klaudia’s continued her PhD project as post-doctoral fellow and currently holds the position of associate professor at the Cluster Geology and Geochemistry at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
