Personal profile

Personal information

Koen Steenks is a PhD candidate at the department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences of VU University in Amsterdam. He is a researcher on the DYNANSE project, which focuses on the careers of workers with flexible contracts. His research examines how employer strategies related to flexible contracts and remuneration policies influence these workers.

Research

Koen Steenks is researching employment relationships in large Dutch firms, employing both qualitative and quantitative methods. For the quantitative analysis, he uses microdata from Statistics Netherlands to explore variations in contract and remuneration policies across firms and their effects on both objective and subjective job quality. In his qualitative research, Koen conducts interviews to investigate how firm policies are developed in the absence of collective bargaining agreements (CBAs). This dual approach provides a comprehensive understanding of the factors shaping employment practices in large organizations.
