Lenya de Brouwer obtained her bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at Maastricht University in 2020. She then followed a master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Maastricht, where she graduated with a specialisation in Genetics and Genomics in 2022. She performed her Master’s internship project at the University of St Andrews, Scotland in collaboration with a pharmaceutical company. During her time there, she performed a study into the effectiveness of a novel chemotherapeutical agent created by this company, and its potential to treat skin cancer. In 2022 she joined the Molecular and Computational Toxicology group as a PhD student under supervision of Anja Wilmes. Her work focuses on differentiating induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) into proximal tubular-like (PTL) cells and hepatocyte-like cells, and to use these cell models for toxicity testing.
