Liebrich Hiemstra is an assistant professor teaching on Climate Change and Financial Regulation as part of the master program ‘International Business Law: Climate Change and Corporations’. Next to this role at the VU, Liebrich is a senior legal counsel at Vattenfall – a Swedish utility – providing legal advice on sustainability law and the impact on the company’s strategy, specifically in its role in the energy- and sustainability transition.

 

Liebrich holds a PhD from Tilburg University where she investigated the EU Supervision of Energy Derivative Trading. Her dissertation is published as a handbook by Edward Elgar Publishing (2023). She holds a master European Law from University of Groningen (2007). Prior to joining Vattenfall, Liebrich worked as an attorney at law in an international law firm (2008 – 2013) and at the Court of Justice of the European Union (2007 – 2008).

 

In her research she has a focus on the energy sector and sustainable finance, including financial regulation, ESG and sustainability law and its impact on corporations in the sustainability transition.
