Research

My PhD Project focuses on well-being and quality of life of siblings of children with intellectual disabilities (ID) and/or visual impairment (VI). We are currently working on three different projects.

Firstly, we are researching the effectiveness of the newly developed serious game 'Broodles' in improving the quality of life and well-being of siblings (6-9 years old) of children with ID and/or VI.
Trial registration: https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/study/NCT05376007.

Secondly, we are doing a longitudinal study about the role of parental factors and behavioral problems in the well-being of co-twin siblings of children with intellectual disabilities. This study includes existing data from the Dutch Twin Register of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
Pre-registration: https://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/XN8PV

Thirdly, we are researching the support needs and support resources of Dutch and Belgian siblings (6-12 years old) of children with ID and/or VI, using a mixed methods study, including interviews and a systematic grey document search.
Pre-registration: https://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/VUP3B
