Lorenzo finished his undergraduate studies in Nature and Environment Sciences at Insubria University in Como, with a thesis project in collaboration with the University of Nevada and USGS seeking seismic chemical precursors in water springs in the center of Italy. Subsequently, he went to Milano-Bicocca University for his master´s degree in Science and Technologies for the Environment and Landscape. There, he started a collaboration with the Institute of Oceanology of Polish Academy of Science for investigating the correlation between sea spray and microplastics in the atmosphere and gaining experience in the field of plastic pollution in different environments and matrices. Afterwards, he obtained a six-month traineeship at Aerosol d.o.o. in Ljubljana where he worked on a new DRI model to quantify the elemental carbon and organic carbon in the atmosphere improving his skills in working in an international research group.
Currently, he is a Ph.D. student at Vrije Univerity of Amsterdam involved in the POLYRISK project, which aims to Understand human exposure and health hazard of micro-and nanoplastic contaminants in our environment. During this period, he will work on developing analytical methods for the characterization and quantification of micro and nanoplastics in different human matrices and environmental matrices.
