Lorna Downie is a PhD candidate at the department of Knowledge, Information and Innovation of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She holds an MPhil degree in Innovation, Strategy and Organisation from the University of Cambridge, and a BSc degree in Management Sciences from Loughborough University. Prior to returning to academia for her MPhil degree, Lorna worked for a number of years in industry, predominantly focusing on the delivery of AI projects and the implementation of new ways of working. In her research, Lorna explores the impact of datafication and algorithmic technologies on work and organizing. Currently she is doing an ethnographic study following the use of data and algorithmic technologies at a national umbrella organisation for sport and several affiliated sport federations as they prepare for the upcoming Summer Olympic Games (mid-2024).
