Personal information

Louis Spoor (born 15 10 1962) worked between 1982 and 1992 in the general audit practice of various accountancy firms, first as an assistent accountant and later as a partner in spe (Borrie & Co Registeraccountants and Paardekooper & Hofman Registeraccountants (later on Mazars).  

In 1991 he completed the NIvRA program to become a Chartered Accountant. From the autumn of 1992 he joined the Postgraduate Accountancy Programa at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam as a subject and training coordinator, specifically for the course Accounting information Systems(AIS).

In the period 1998-1999 he was involved in an educational project of the World Bank and the CROSS office of the Dutch Ministry of Education. This project was carried out in partnership between the Vrije Universiteit, the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and the Finance Academy in Moscow and aimed to update the ducational programma for accountants, auditors and financial managers in Russia.

From 2000 he started as a course coordinator and lecturer in Accounting Information Systems (AIS) at the Postgraduate Controllers programma at the same university. From the spring of 2005 he also is a lecturer of the new course Risk Management & Internal Control (now Risk Management). He is now a core lecturer of the programma and in charge of several organizational tasks (e.g. admission of new students). In addition, he teaches AIS and Advanced Bookkeeping as part of the summerschool.

In may 2006. he conducted a comparative study of a number of companies focussed on the effectiveness and efficiency of internal control with regard to revenue recognition. The companies involved were KPN, Vodafone and KLM.

In 2007, he conducted an experiment aimed at identifying and analyzing the differences of opinion between business economists and lawyers regarding the role and tasks of the parent company in concern  organizations. In 2011, the results were published in het Maandblad voor Accountany en Bedrijfshuishoudkunde(MAB).

He as given several workshops in the field of Sarbanes Oxley and Enterprise Risk Management for the Permanent Education of financial professionals through the Financial Executive Education Institute of the Vrije Universiteit.

He obtained the BKO certificate in the spring of 2016 and form augusts 2016 he is chair of the Eamination Board of the Center of Executive Education of the School of Buiness and Economics at the Vrije Universiteit. He thus provides a role in the quality assurance of a number of Postgarduate Programmes at this university.

In the summer and autumn of 2017, he designed the new module Information, Technology & Control for the Executive Master in Finance and Control at the VU as a modern follow-up to the basis courses of AIS and Information Management in which attention is given to the influence and significance of IT Trends on the quality of data (Data Governance and Data Quality Management) and the role of the Finance Function in these devellopments.

As of may 2017, he has been a member of the Ethics Committee of the Vereniging van Registercontrollers(VRC) and active in the COPE subcommittee. The committee investigates compliance with the Permanent Education obligation of graduates and reports the findings and advice to the board of the VRC.

He is author of several publications in the aforementioned fields.
