Personal information

Luuk Lagerwerf has a broad experience in interdisciplinary research and methodology, a great variety of educational programs and enduring responsibility in academic management. His research interests concern the design of communication messages and their effects in audiences, especially in news, advertising and political communication. Methodologies include (formal) linguistic and discourse analysis, corpus and content analysis, experimental research, and other media use and effects methods. From his student-assistant position on, Lagerwerf developed courses in a variety of programs, from linguistics to sociology, and anything in-between. He was involved in the development of two new educational programs of Communication Science (at University of Twente and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), and several renewals of programs of Communication and Information Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Besides participating in and chairing educational committees and examining boards, as well as works councils, he repeatedly has been the acting chair of Communication Science as well as Language and Communication, in absence of full professors fulfilling that role (in total for eight years, at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam). Lagerwerf is secretary of the association of Dutch language and communication scholars (VIOT), and editor of the professional journal Tekstblad.
