Marjolein Cupido is Assistant Professor at the department of Criminal Law and Criminology of VU University Amsterdam and a fellow at the Center for International Criminal Justice.

Marjolein holds an LL.M. in criminal law (summa cum laude) from Leiden University where she also participated in the Talent Program, an extra-curricular program on legal research. In 2015, Marjolein defended her doctoral dissertation – entitled Facts Matter: A Study into the Casuistry of Substantive International Criminal Law – at VU University Amsterdam. In 2017, she was apointed as Visiting Professional at the International Criminal Court, where she worked on the Defence of Mr. Jean-Pierre Bemba in the Bemba et al. case.

Marjolein teaches the courses International Criminal Courts and Tribunals, Criminal Law across the Borders, Terrorism and Security, and Criminal Law Research Lab. She also supervises bachelor and materthesis. Her research mainly focuces on international criminal law, comparative criminal law, and criminal liability theories.
