Makoto Watanabe (PhD University of Essex) is an associate professor of economics at the Department of Economics at VU Amsterdam and a research fellow of the Tinbergen Institute and CESifo. Previously, he worked at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in Spain. He received a VIDI grant from NWO in 2012 and held a visiting position at New York University.

Research

His main research interests are:
(1) Intermediation theory and its applications; (2) Dynamic trading/pricing patterns, (3) Search and matching models; (4) Macroeconomic implications of market transactional problems.
