Personal information

Madeline Werthschulte is an Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) in the department of Environmental Economics at the Institute of Environmental Studies (IVM) in Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She is also a Junior Research Associate of the ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research and an affiliate of the RWI Research Network.

Madeline’s research lies at the intersection of environmental economics and behavioural economics. In particular, she uses field and online experiments to understand determinants of household energy demand. A recent focus has been on the energy choices of vulnerable households.

Before joining VU Amsterdam, Madeline Werthschulte was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Heidelberg University, Research Center for Environmental Economics, and at the ZEW – Leibniz Center for European Economic Research, Department of Environmental and Climate Economics. She obtained her PhD from the University of Münster.
