Personal information

Manuela Kalsky is Professor at Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam (Edward Schillebeeckx Chair for Theology and Society); Director of the Theological Research Centre of the Dutch Dominicans (DSTS) and in charge of the multimedia project New We (www.nieuwwij.nl) in the Netherlands. In spring 2016 she was a visiting professor at the Academy of World Religions (Hamburg University). As a well known scholar, she is also regularly involved in the public debate in the Netherlands on the role of religion(s) in a multicultural and multireligious society and has published numerous articles on related themes.

Prof. Kalsky’s research in recent years has focused primarily on religion in a pluralist society. At present, she is in charge of the NWO-funded research project ‘Multiple religious belonging: hermeneutical and empirical explorations of hybrid religiosity’ at VU University. She has also recently concluded a research project on the same subject at the DSTS, aimed at a wider audience interested in the impact of religion on society. At the DSTS, a new research programme started in autumn 2017: 'Theology of the good life for all. Contributions from dominican and transreligious perspectives'.

Manuela Kalsky initiated the multimedia project New We with the aim of strengthening social cohesion by the innate capacity in society to live together with people from different cultures and religions.
