Marieke van Wieringen is a assistant professor at the Department of Organization Sciences. Marieke is also the Director of the Talma Instituut. Through multidisciplinary research – combining insights from the social sciences and health economics – the Talma Instituut identifies barriers to accessibility, affordability and quality of care in the Dutch health care system, and develops insights on how to remove these barriers. The research is characterized by co-creation with societal partners and stakeholders throughout the entire process.
Previously, Marieke was co-theme leader of the Institute of Societal Resilience's theme Care and Welfare.
Marieke's research focuses on care professionals in the long-term care sector, particularly nursing home and home care settings, and specifically on the occupational group of certified nursing assistants (in Dutch: verzorgenden IG). Marieke is interested in occupational development and change processes, professional identity, and the relationship between different occupational groups. She previously studied what certified nursing assistants need to develop and express their voice, and how they can position themselves to have that voice heard.
As an engaged scholar, she is a devoted to engage in co-creation in research, open science and accessible science communication. For example, Marieke has engaged certified nursing assistants and other societal stakeholders, throughout the entire research process: from identifying knowledge gaps, to the development of research question and the co-creation of valorization products.
Grants
Over the years, Marieke received multiple research and valorizations grants: from ZonMw, the Ministry of Health, Van Coevorden en Adriani Foundation, Hofjes Codde en van Beresteyn Foundation, VUvereniging.
