Marjolein Zweekhorst is professor Innovation and Education in the health and life sciences at the Athena Institute, VU University Amsterdam. She graduated in Medical Biology at the VU University Amsterdam (1996). She wrote her PhD thesis on institutionalisation of an interactive approach to technological innovation (defence 2004). Her current research is focused on methodology development for interactive policy and interactive technology development in the field of (international) public health(aiming to improve acces to health care especially in low- and middle income countries and,, health 2) development of educational approaches and innovations in health and life science education aiming to prepare students for inter- and transdisciplinary research. Moreover, she leads the Broader Mind Community Service Learning (CSL) Team of the VU University, which aims to involve CSL within all programs of the VU. At the EU level, I lead a workpackage on teaching and learning with societal impact within the Aurora Allinace. Moreover, she is involved in four Erasmus plus projects. In all programs her involvement concerns stimulating community engagement in education at various universities all over the world. Finally, for 10 years she was Program director of the Master Management Policy-Analysis and Entrepreneurship in the Health and Life Sciences. Currently she is program director of the master program and Master Biomedical Sciences. Furthermore, she is member of the International Academic Board of the Dutch Royal Tropical Institute.
