Personal information

As an associate professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy and as program director of the Bachelor and Master programs in Science, Business & Innovation (SBI), I work at the heart of experimental and entrepreneurial science. With my research and teaching, I contribute on a daily basis to the further development of entrepreneurial science & engineering, technological innovation, and education. I strongly believe in the transformative power of education. Unique about our approach is that the work in our research group on science and tech entrepreneurship and education feeds directly into educational management and teaching practices, creating an effective, evidence-informed didactical approach.

My work and activities involve:
- Principal Investigator of the Entrepreneurship & Innovation in Science & Technology Group
- As Program Director, leading the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in Science, Business & Innovation (SBI) (with NVAO Special Feature Entrepreneurship) at the Faculty of Science, VU Amsterdam.
- Coordinating the strategic collaboration between VU and the University of Twente on behalf of the Faculty of Science.
- Teaching and coordinating several BSc and MSc SBI courses and graduation trajectories at the bachelor’s, master’s, and honours levels, including the supervision of SBI bachelor’s and master’s theses.
- Collaborating with international organizations such as CERN, ESADE, ESO, XFEL, ESRF, and EMBL
- Authoring over 30 research publications in esteemed journals, including the *Science of the Total Environment*, *Journal of Innovation and Knowledge*, and *International Entrepreneurship and Management Journal*.
- Securing multiple European and other grants for research projects on innovation and entrepreneurship in science and technology.
- Providing expert advice on innovation policy to the Dutch government and various ministries
- Bringing industry experience as a consultant in water management, bridging the gap between academic research and practical application.
- Demonstrating strong leadership skills as a highly qualified professional in educational management, proven by several leadership roles and qualifications.
- Frequently invited as a speaker at national and international events on topics related to science, innovation, and education.
- Frequently sought by Dutch media to provide expert commentary on topics related to sustainable innovation and water management .
