Personal information

I am a tenured Assistant Professor, division Science Business Innovation (SBI), Faculty of Science, VU University Amsterdam and acting program director of the bachelor program Science, Business & Innovation.

My research focuses on governance and organization of scientific research and R&D for sustainable innovation, both on an intra organizational level as well as from a broader, innovation ecosystem’s perspective, with a special interest in water management. I regularly supervise PhD-students and I have experience in being part of the opposition in PhD-ceremonies. Currently, I co-supervise PhD-candidates Fiza Ahmed and Amy Abdou. I am a regular reviewer for several reputable scientific journals in the field of innovation, organization and management.

My teaching focuses on science-based entrepreneurship, and the organization of science-based innovation for sustainable development - with an emphasis on project education. I coordinate the master theses/projects in the master's program SBI. On a yearly basis I supervise 10+ bachelor theses, and 15+ master theses.

I am a member of the editorial board of the professional journal Water Governance. I regularly participate in academic conferences and professional networks on the organization of knowledge infrastructures, the role of policy and public-private interactions for sustainable innovation.

I have extensive experience in public and private consulting related to governance of innovation and innovation in water management. As a professional researcher and project manager, I conducted projects and assignments for the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Science and Education (a.o.) on behalf of the Rathenau Institute (part of Royal Academy of Sciences in the Netherlands), and for Stichting Toegepast Onderzoek Waterbeheer (a.o.) on behalf of private consultancy firm Twynstra Gudde. My PhD-thesis was published in 2011 as a commercial book edition, by publisher Boom/Lemma.
