Martijn Stronks studied law and philosophy at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Cape Town University, South Africa. After his studies he became Editor-in-Chief of the migration law journal Migrantenrecht and its successor Asiel&Migrantenrecht. Between 1 september 2012 and 31 augustus 2016 he wrote a legal and philosophical dissertation on the role of time in European migration law. Since September 2016 he works as an Assistant Professor at the Amsterdam Centref of Migration and Refugee Law of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Together with Anne-Marie Slotboom he is Confidential Counselor of the Law Faculty.

Martijn Stronks studeerde rechten en filosofie. Na zijn studie werd hij hoofdredacteur van het migratierechtelijke vaktijdschrift Migrantenrecht en zijn opvolger Asiel&Migrantenrecht. Tussen 1 september 2012 en 31 augustus 2016 schreef hij een juridisch, filosofisch proefschrift. Per september 2016 is hij als universitair docent verbonden aan het Amsterdam Centre for Migration and Refugee Law van de VU. Samen met Anne-Marie Slotboom is hij Vertrouwenspersoon van de Faculteit Rechtsgeleerdheid.

Martijn Stronks has published legal and philosophical articles on unlawfully residing migrants, regularizations, asylum, criminal migrants in a wide variety of scientific and popular journals and in newspapers. His dissertation analysed the role of time in European Migration Law, the manuscript that was based on this dissertation appeared in the Cambridge Asylum and Migration Studies Series. He focusses in his current research on the human right to time. Martijn writes on an irregular basis a column for NRC, a Dutch newspaper and regularly contributes to De Groene Amsterdammer, a Dutch weekly.

Martijn Stronks publiceerde juridische en filosofische artikelen en essays over uiteenlopende onderwerpen als asiel, criminele vreemdelingen, gewortelde vreemdelingen, pardonregelingen en illegale vreemdelingen. Zijn juridisch en filosofisch promotieonderzoek handelde over het begrip tijd in het Europese migratierecht, het daarop gebaseerde boek verscheen in de Cambridge Asylum and Migration Studies Series een boek dat is gebaseerd op zijn promotieonderzoek. Zijn huidige onderzoek richt zich op 'the human right to time'. Martijn schrijft op onregelmatige basis een column voor het NRC Blog Recht en onrecht en en met een zekere regelmaat voor De Groene Amsterdammer.
