Research

Maarten Bolhuis conducts research in the programme Empirical and normative studies. He is a fellow at the Center for International Criminal Justice and takes part in the Escaping Justice Project, which focuses on the implications of the application of article 1F Refugee Convention. On the basis of this article, persons who are associated with committing international crimes, such as crimes against humanity and war crimes, excluded from refugee protection. His PhD thesis focused on the role countries of refuge play in administering ‘justice’ to these alleged perpetrators of serious criminality.
