Nadia Bloemendaal has been working at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) since September 2016. Her PhD research focuses on tropical cyclone flood risk under climate change. This research is under the supervision of Prof. Jeroen Aerts, Dr Hans de Moel and Dr Sanne Muis, and in collaboration with Deltares and KNMI.
Prior to starting this PhD research, Nadia completed a MSc in Meteorology, Physical Oceanography and Climate and a BSc in Applied Mathematics. During her BSc, Nadia learned to solve practical problems in a mathematical manner, and then translate its solution back to a clear and directly applicable advice for the client. Nadia used this combination of climatological and mathematical insight to improve the KNMI weather forecast model during her internship. Her adjustments will be implemented in the next model update.
