Pamungkas Dewanto (Yudha) is an external Ph.D candidate in social anthropology at VU Amsterdam. His research focuses on temporary migration of workers from Indonesia to Malaysia. He is particularly engaged with the literature on transnationalism, migration networks, forced labour, hometown associations, and transnational politics. His Ph.D project is investigating the hybrid characteristics of Indonesian Migrant Workers' communities in Malaysia. He is conducting multi-sited ethnography among Indonesian workers, both in Malaysia and in Indonesia. Aside from this project, he is also interested in overlooking migration policy, and the protection of migrant workers in Southeast Asia. He has been supporting various organizations including the International Organization for Migration, the International Labour Organization in Indonesia as well as Human Rights Working Group in developing human rights training materials for migrant workers.
