Paris Pencharz is a PhD Candidate within the Environmental Geography group at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM). Her research explores urban agriculture, within the EU and UK, through a land system science lens. This will, among other things, involve spatial analyses and scenario modelling. Paris’ work falls under the FoodCityBoost project that aims to perform an integrated assessment of urban farming impacts and policies for boosting sustainable urban agricultural development linking urban, peri-urban and rural areas.
Paris completed a Master of Science in Earth Science (Global Environmental Change and Policy) from VU Amsterdam, and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences (Animal, Plant, and Environmental Science) from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. She previously worked as the Project manager of the Jozi Bee Hotel Project – a large scale citizen science project at Wits University. The study evaluated access to ecosystem services across a socio-economic and green space gradient in Johannesburg using solitary bees as indicators.
