Personal profile

Personal information

Paul Stroet is a PhD candidate at the Management and Organisation department and is under supervision of prof. dr. Arjen van Witteloostuijn and prof. dr. Svetlana Khapova. He obtained his MPhil in Business Data Science (2021), his MSc in Data Science and Marketing Analytics at the Erasmus University Rotterdam (2021), and his BSc in Economics at the University of Amsterdam (2019). His research interests evolve around deep learning, and lie specifically at the intersection of methodological development and application of models in deep generative modeling, variational Bayesian inference and outlier detection. He is very fascinated by uncovering the potential of deep learning in information systems as well.

Research

Paul Stroet held research assistantship positions with prof. dr. Cars Hommes at the Center of Nonlinear Dynamics in Economics and Finance (2018, Tinbergen Institute) and with prof. dr. Francesca Sotgiu at Business Data Science (2020-2021, Vrije Universiteit).

Teaching

Paul Stroet has been a teaching assistant for various courses, including elementary undergraduate courses hosted by prof. dr. Maarten Pieter Schinkel, MPhil courses in Deep Learning hosted by dr. Eran Raviv, as well as summer schools at Business Data Science. Currently, he is developing a new PhD-level course 'Applied Machine Learning', aiming to accommodate scholars who wish to integrate state-of-the-art machine learning techniques in their research. Next, he is the thesis supervisor of five MSc students.
